Surgical resection is considered as the first choice for hepatic tumor treatment. Unfortunately, up to 80% of the colorectal liver metastases (the most common lesion encountered in the liver) are inoperable [Adam R. et al. Patients with initially Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastases : Is there a Possibility of Cure ?. J. Clin Oncol, 2009; 27(11): 1829-1835.]. Several alternative treatments have been investigated [Savier E. et al. Percutaneous Isolated Hepatic Perfusion for Chemotherapy. Arch Surg 2003; 138: 325-332].

Thermoablative procedures are now well developed and radiofrequency (RF) is to date considered as the reference procedure.

TMT with hot waporized water has been proposed as an alternative to RF with the advantage of avoiding carbonization and capable of treating large tumoral volumes.
